This is a fine early to mid 1980s Italian brown suede maxi skirt by Ralph Lauren from what was at the time, the mainline collection as the flagship purple label was introduced in 1994. This was purchased as part of a small collection of very premium vintage and my client remarked how excited she was when the company opened its first international store in New Bond Street, London in 1981 where she was a regular visitor.
The skirt features a classic wide waistband, complete with belt loops and generous gathering of the leather so that the skirt has a voluminous appearance. The skirt fastens with a front zipper and two buttons, and also has two functional pockets, each finished with a flap and button fastening. The suede is of an incredibly high quality, very soft and almost caramel brown in colour, and although it is unlined it has a lovely weight to it. This timeless skirt would make the perfect layering piece for autumn and winter, especially when paired with a jumper and boots for extra cosiness.
In excellent vintage condition, with no apparent marks or faults to the suede. Labelled a vintage US 8; these days, it would best fit up to a 10 UK, or 6 US, on account of the waist measurement and the nature of suede being a non stretch material.
